Does is it ever happen with you , you struggle to choose the right colours for your painting ? And some times the exact opposite , you are able to mix the most beautiful palette and get the perfect composition !
Not talking about the technicalities of the colour wheel and colour theology as we all have some idea on that . Infact as an artist who always finds it tough to choose my palette ( only because of my love of colour in general !) I would like to share with you what are the quick steps and ideas that I use when I struggle to get the right shades in place . These are very short term strategies but they help me get going and get me out of the rut ..
So let’s start , with building your Pinterest mood board, this can include colours of anything , but colours/ palettes you have been liking - something like this - just shades you have been admiring these days
Next how about looking for some offline inspiration on your daily walks , a small trip or what about our own homes ?
Next stage is when I move to swatching and making shade cards . Layering the shades on top saturating and desaturating them in the process.
Finally we can get to making a couple of studies before going ahead with the final artwork . Choosing colours for your artwork is an art in itself . And it is an area I have struggled for long .
As a maximalist and someone who loves all colour tones I find it tough to stick to a tone or shade. It seems like a never ending tug of war between my heart and my mind.
Hopefully in the future !
