Wikipedia says about Flow:
In positive psychology, a flow state, also known colloquially as being in the zone, is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.
As I see it, a flow state is the process of increased curiosity. It’s a place where knowledge is expressed and created. The flow allows my mind to wander freely. And it’s so vital to making art that I push myself to find sources-- articles, color palettes, peoples behavior, even chaos and disruption inspire me and stimulate curiosity.
Information consumption, can distract and bog us down from reaching flow it can lead us down unending spirals of information overload. Feeling distracted by the more logical work occupying brain space, and the constant ideas of perfectionism that exist in our minds.
I’ve realized that following what sparks my curiosity takes me to higher places.
Often, I let any ideas and feelings sit in my head days before making marks on the canvas.
I think of feelings and ideas, read blogs, find colors that call me in , look at the window outside my desk to just stare at random color palettes . And they can be as basic as a dump truck and the tar road.
I truly believe we do not need to be in a different place or a more "beautiful" place to get inspired (though that does help for sure)
I think what I am coming down to is the point of Inspiration or flow being the conscious connection between our selves and the art of appreciating the current reality around us . Subconsciously working on the assumptions about the value we place on physical versus our mental being.
But as much as I 'am figuring out, there’s always more to learn--especially with the help of you; share with me what gets you into a flow state?
